PUBG Mobile Unleashes ‘Unfail’ Mode: A Dead by Daylight-Inspired Asymmetrical PvP
Popular Now

In a major shift from its signature Battle Royale format, PUBG Mobile has launched its first permanent asymmetrical Player-versus-Player (PvP) mode, titled Unfail, as part of the Version 4.0 update. This new mode is heavily inspired by the popular survival horror game Dead by Daylight, pitting a team of Survivors against a single, super-powered Predator in a tense game of cat-and-mouse.
Unfail Mode: Key Mechanics
The new mode is a 1v4 match played on a specially designed, fog-filled section of the Erangel map, Mylta Power, with a distinct set of objectives and victory conditions for each side.
The Survivors (4 Players)
- Objective: Work together to locate and activate five out of eight Terminals scattered across the map. Successfully activating the required Terminals opens the Exit Portal.
- Escape Condition: The Survivors win if three or more players escape through the Exit Portal.
- Tools & Tactics: Survivors rely on teamwork, stealth, and using the environment. They can use items like Wrenches for faster Terminal repairs, Jet Gauntlets for quick vaulting, and AED Anti-Radiation devices for faster revives. They can also interact with map objects like flipping pallets to stun the Predator, hiding in distribution boxes, and using fire extinguishers for smoke cover. A heart rate monitor provides an early warning of the Predator’s approach.
- Revival: Each Survivor has one Auto Recall upon elimination, granting a second chance, which the Predator must strategically counter.
The Predator (1 Player)
- Objective: Hunt down the Survivors and prevent them from escaping.
- Win Condition: The Predator wins if one or zero Survivors escape through the Exit Portal. A draw occurs if exactly two Survivors escape.
- Abilities: The Predator is a formidable force equipped with unique skills that level up through accumulating “Rage” by attacking Survivors:
- Hook Attack: Pulls targets or environmental objects closer.
- Invisible Trap: Deploys a hidden mine that slows and damages Survivors.
- Stealth Mode: Grants temporary invisibility, increased movement speed, and damage resistance for ambushes.
- Elimination: The Predator must knock down and then manually capture and eliminate a Survivor. Upon reaching Level 3 Rage, the Predator gains the ability to execute downed Survivors instantly, preventing rescue and using up their Auto Recall faster.
A New Direction for PUBG Mobile
The introduction of Unfail marks a major commitment by Lightspeed Studio and Kakao Games to diversify the PUBG Mobile experience beyond its core Battle Royale gameplay. It shifts the focus from traditional gunplay and last-man-standing to psychological tension, objective-based teamwork, and strategic hunting, directly competing with the established asymmetrical PvP genre.
By blending the familiar mobile accessibility of PUBG Mobile with the intense “pursuit and escape” dynamics of the asymmetrical genre, ‘Unfail’ aims to deliver a fresh, high-stakes challenge that keeps the global player base engaged and introduces the game to fans of competitive hide-and-seek mechanics.
